Is a Web-Based Solution Right for My Organization?
Considering a web-based time and attendance solution? Check out some of the benefits:
Eliminates the need to license, install, maintain, and manage servers and software at your site
Less configuration, less complexity- All you need is a PC and internet connection
Administration is performed by payroll and human resource staff requiring no IT expertise
Lower upfront costs and allows for frequent upgrades
Web-based solution providers charge on a subscription basis, with some charging as little as $3 to $4 per employee per month.
Tech Talk: "Multi-tenancy"
How does a web-based system work, you ask? The answer is multi-tenancy. According to Smoothspan, "Multi-tenancy is the ability to run multiple customers on a single software instance installed on multiple servers. This reduces operational complexity and cost in managing the software to deliver the service."
Tenants on a multi-tenant system can operate as though they have an instance of the software entirely to themselves which is completely secure and insulated from any impact by other tenants.
With a multi-tenant architecture, a software application is designed to virtually partition its data and configuration so that each client organization works with a customized virtual application instance.
According to Rob Bernshteyn of Successfactors, "Multi-tenancy is the reason that companies can upgrade their software each month." Because a single software code base can be used by many customers, software vendors can make changes to the system and make those available to clients much more quickly than they could with the licensed model.
