Factoid of the Month
Time Ruling
"On November 8, 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that employers must pay employees for the time it takes to put on and take off safety gear and the time it takes them to walk between the changing area and the production area. Workers must also be compensated for time they spend waiting to take off safety gear."
IBP Inc. vs. Alvarez and Turn et al. vs. Barber Foods, Inc.
Let an automated time and attendance system be your answer to applying your work rules...no matter how strange!
Quote of the Month
"Three Rules of Work:
1. Out of clutter, find simplicity
2. From discord, find harmony
3. In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity."
-Albert Einstein
Based on this astute observation, you can be sure that if Einstein was around today, he would be an advocate of an automated time and attendance system!

Reducing the Headaches of HR and Payroll
A good automated time and attendance system will ease the burdens of your HR and payroll departments by simplifying the following processes:
    • Rounding - calculates punch times to the nearest 10th, quarter, etc. of an hour
    • Meals and breaks - applies policies for paid breaks, minimum meal requirements, long meal policies, policies for working through lunch, etc.
    • Shift breakdowns - automatically calculates hours for evening, night, weekend, holiday shifts, etc., according to your organization's policies and qualifying criteria
That is just the beginning! To learn more about how automated time and attendance systems reduce the workload of your HR/Payroll department, check out the TimeLines Archive.
Configurable Options
An automated labor management system will also include other configurable options, as well. These include:
     • Pay periods - synchronized to your weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly payroll cycles
     • Labor account fields - configurable to relate to your general ledger, project tracking, etc.
     • Access profiles and user accounts - provides secure distribution of the application adaptable to varying levels and authority throughout your organization
     • Time-off definitions - according to your company's policies
